Awarded the First Prize at the First Ibero-American Competition for Band Composition "Villa de Ortigueira" This work is based in Plato’s myth of the cave. The work is built upon three elements which articulate the whole discourse: a main theme (b. 5), a secondary theme (b. 48) and a harmonic-melodic element consisting on a major triad structure with a major second and an augmented fourth. These main elements experiment different processes of variation generating other secondary ideas and themes and developing three main concepts: the idea of echo and resonance as Leit-motif of the piece, the blurring of melodic shapes and lines and the superposition of different harmonic, melodic and timbric layers. This is shaped by a language which combines free modality and atonality constructing and consolidating tonal and polar centres, aside from a treatment using 20th-century languages, techniques and resources.
